One-Touch Multi-Room Automation for GSK’s Karachi Town Hall Space
Client: GSK
Location: Karachi, Pakistan
Delivered with: DWP Technologies (Cisco Gold Partner) — hardware supply and project management
Our role: Cisco Webex macro programming and system integration — Maaz Technologies (Cisco Select Developer Partner)
Timeline: 2 weeks, scope to delivery
The Challenge
GSK’s town hall space in Karachi is made up of three adjoining rooms that needed to operate in three different configurations: a fully combined event mode, a two-room meeting mode, and a fully split mode with each room running independently. Switching between them meant manually touching separate video, audio, and control systems one at a time — slow, error-prone, and dependent on someone who knew every system in the room.
The common way to solve this is a dedicated hardware control processor driving every subsystem in the space — a heavier and more expensive build than a room like this actually needs.
Our Approach
We built the mode-switching logic directly into custom Webex macros running on the room’s Cisco Room Kit Pro and two Room Bar Pro units, with a one-touch Room Mode page added to the Cisco Navigator panel. Rather than introducing a separate control-system layer to make the decisions, the Cisco endpoints themselves became the control layer — Navigator initiates the mode, the macro on the Room Kit Pro carries out the logic, and simple commands are handed off to the room’s existing audio DSP and AV switching hardware only to execute what the macro has already decided.
What the macro handles for each of the three modes:
- Codec wake/sleep state on the main Room Kit Pro
- Ceiling and table microphone routing — enabling or disabling inputs per mode
- Call standby and panel locking on the two Room Bar Pro units, so the sub-rooms can’t take or place calls independently while the space is combined
- Command handoff to the site’s audio DSP and AV switching hardware, so displays and speakers follow the same mode change automatically
The Result
GSK’s space now switches between three fully configured audio/video modes from a single touch on the Navigator panel — no walking between rooms, no touching separate systems by hand. The project was scoped, approved, and delivered on site within a two-week window, with the full three-mode requirement met.
